Threat Meter Levels

The Threat Meter is an indication of current security issues for computers connected to the Internet. EarthLink Threat Research continuously monitors the Internet security situation and uses the Threat Meter to help inform Internet users of potential danger. High: A new security exploit for a popular software application has been reported. Review the information about the patch and update your computer if necessary.

Medium: The number of attempts to compromise computer and data security has increased. In addition to following the safe practices recommended by EarthLink Threat Research, use caution when opening unexpected email, instant messages, file transfers, and links to Web sites you’ve never visited before.

Low: To ensure your continued security, use the safe practices recommended by EarthLink Threat Research when browsing Web pages, checking email, and engaging in other Internet activity.
